“Why should we hire you?” This is a strong and direct question that is frequently asked during the interview process. As the interviewee, this question should be perceived as an opportunity for you to connect the dots, and briefly describe how your achievements and skillsets are aligned with qualifications for the open position.
While it may be exciting to describe how you are the best candidate for the position, you want to be sure that you remain on topic and provide and a solid answer.
Prepare for this question by starting with an open document or blank sheet of paper. Write the job title that you are interviewing for. Beneath it, list three reasons that you feel you are qualified for the said role. Then, revisit each of the reasons one by one and add a writing a brief, supporting the narrative.
This exercise is going to help you formulate legitimate reasons for why you are the best candidate for the position, and why “they” should hire you. By spending a healthy amount of time developing quality responses, you will be demonstrating that you are a serious candidate, focused and prepared – not only for the interview but also for the next step in your career.
